Heather Millar, MD, MIPH, FRCS(C), completed medical school and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. She then went on to work as a Faculty Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya as part of the University of Toronto Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology’s partnership within the AMPATH Consortium (Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare), where she worked as a clinician, teacher of both Kenyan and North American medical trainees and women’s health researcher. Dr. Millar then helped to start and completed the University of Toronto Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Fellowship in Global Women’s Health and Equity.

Throughout her training and, in particular, due to her interest in vulnerable populations, she became interested in the obstetric and gynaecologic concerns of girls and young women. She completed a fellowship in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology at the Hospital for Sick Children in 2018 and will be joining the Sick Kids Section of Gynaecology as Associate Staff Physician in January 2020.

Dr. Millar has a specific interest and experience in innovative approaches to care, research and community partnerships to improve the sexual and reproductive health of marginalized girls and women. She has been recognized for strong clinical teaching, patient-centred care, advocacy and leadership skills. Dr. Millar’s favourite part of her job are the relationships that she is able to develop with patients and she feels honoured to be allowed into their lives.
